What Next?
BISC’s committee is considering the best use for the club’s ice, particularly 9.15-10.30pm on Wednesdays and 5-5.30pm on Fridays. However, because of the imminent start of pantomime rehearsals, changes are unlikely to be made until the New Year. In the meantime, the Wednesday session will remain as a patch on which lessons may be taken, while the Friday session will be used for synchro development on the first Friday of the month and for whichever section of the club has most need (ie skaters preparing for championships etc).
Bracknell Open
BISC hopes to add a qualifying competition for the British Primary, Junior and Senior Ice Dance Championships at its Open next April. If it goes ahead, it will probably be held on the Sunday before the five days of solo dance and free skating competitions.
Provisional dates are April 24-29 for the Open and June 23-24 for the Adult Open.
Congratulations
Well done to club member Emily Farrow for finding time between skating to excel on the river!
She recently won the under 17s skiff marathon, held over 4 km of the Thames in Wargrave. The boats are set off at 20 second intervals and timed accordingly. Emily, 15, and her friend completed the course two minutes faster than the nearest competitor. Emily also entered three classes in the Wargrave and Ship-lake Regatta in August, getting into the finals of all three, and winning two. She was particularly delighted as she and the other girl had also won the girls race the previous year, when a few people indicated it had been a fluke. So rowing does have something in common with skating!!
Sorry
The last edition stated that Michelle Bannister passed her Level 7 compulsory dance test in July. In fact, she passed the Level 7 compulsory and free dance tests last November. We apologise for the error.
Videos & DVDs
The club’s collection of ISU videos and DVDs, designed to help skaters to improve their elements, is proving very popular.
For a £5 deposit for each video or DVD, they can be borrowed free of charge for a week from the club table on Wednesdays although there may be a waiting list.
The titles are: How to Spin; How to Jump – axel, salchow, and loop; How to Jump – flip, toe loop, lutz; and Pairs. Each has sections about each jump/spin including history, technique, errors, corrections and skaters comments.
Have you paid?
Don't forget that anyone who skates on club ice on Wednesdays must pay at reception for each part of the session they skate on-ie, 6.15-6.45pm, 6.45-7.30pm and 7.30-8pm.
Tickets must be handed to the duty committee member at the gate before going on the ice at the start of each session.
Copies of BISC News with colour photographs are now available, priced £1. Members can still get black and white copies free as part of their membership.
