Test Successes

Congratulations to Rebecca Forsyth and Christopher Hockaday on passing their NISA Junior Competitive Ice Dance tests at the end of October, and to the following BISC members who passed NISA dance tests on October 15:

Rachel Kellas - Level 1, 2 & 3 compulsories;
Caroline Sheppard - Levels 2 & 3 variation;
Leah Rogers - Level 3-7 variation;
Charlotte Hester - Levels 5 & 6 compulsory, Level 3 variation and Levels 4-6 original dance;
Helen Ingram - Level 7 compulsory and Level 8 free dance;
Fiona Piggott - Level 7, 8 & 9 compulsories;
Michelle Bannister - Level 8b compulsory, Level 8 free, Level 3 variation and Levels 4-7 original dance.
* Rachel Kellas and Anna Minchinton passed their NISA Level 3 elements and free tests on October 8, not Level 2 as reported in the last edition. We apologise for this error.

Panto Rehearsals

All members of the pantomime cast are reminded that they should attend all rehearsals they are called for. “This applies equally to principals as those in the choruses,” said club chairman, Roy Welham.

“Taking part is a privilege, not a right. Rehearsal time is very limited and it is important that everyone in a group works together as often as possible. Rehearsal dates are posted in advance and it is unfair on those who do attend if others do not show up.”

Any skaters who persistently fail to attend may find they are barred from taking part in future pantomimes.

200 Club

The winners of the October 200 Club draw were Vince Kerr (£31) and Janice Cross (£8). Shares are on sale at the club table on Tuesdays or via Scott Waller or by downloading a form from the BISC website.

Synchro Star

One of the newest recruits to the club's synchro section has been named as synchro's first Star Skater, a new award which will be presented as and when it is deserved.

Olivia Wessendorf, 11, joined BISC soon after she started skating three years ago and has competed as a free skater in several club competitions and Opens, winning bronze in the under Level 1 class at Milton Keynes in the summer. She is due to take her Level 1 free, elements and field moves tests this month.

After joining the club's synchro development classes last year, she competed with the Bracknell team in the Southern League synchro development competitions in May 2003 which she thoroughly enjoyed. She joined Ice Precise earlier this year and has loved both the skating and the social aspect of being part of a team.

She was named as Star Skater because of the way she has excelled in her short time with synchro.

She always has a smile and has an excellent attitude. It took her no time to learn the steps for the Ice Precise programme and she gained a place in the team after just a couple of months - in time for the first championship qualifier last month.

Videos & DVDs

The club’s collection of ISU videos and DVDs, designed to help skaters to improve their elements, is proving very popular.

For a £5 deposit for each video or DVD, they can be borrowed free of charge for a week from the club table on Wednesdays although there may be a waiting list.

The titles are: How to Spin; How to Jump – axel, salchow, and loop; How to Jump – flip, toe loop, lutz; and Pairs. Each has sections about each jump/spin including history, technique, errors, corrections and skaters comments.

Have you paid?

Don't forget that anyone who skates on club ice on Wednesdays must pay at reception for each part of the session they skate on-ie, 6.15-6.45pm, 6.45-7.30pm and 7.30-8pm.

Tickets must be handed to the duty committee member at the gate before going on the ice at the start of each session.

Copies of BISC News with colour photographs are now available, priced £1. Members can still get black and white copies free as part of their membership.
