Streatham Open

Three BISC members competed at Streatham a week after the Bracknell Open … and two won gold. Congratulations to James Bailey for coming first of three in the Level 1 boys class and to David Truby for coming first of three in the Level 4/5 boys class. Leah Rogers had a really good skate in the Novice Ladies class, particularly in the long where she skated a “fluent” programme landing everything except the double cherry. She was 4th in the short, 3rd in the long and 5th overall out of five.

Nottingham SDQ

Three more BISC members qualified for the British Solo Dance Championship in the qualifier at Nottingham on
May 3.

Fiona Piggott, 13, joins Rebecca Forsyth, Claire Miller and Charlotte Hester in the primary championship final after coming 5th in the compulsory, 6th in the original and 5th overall out of 18.

Helen Ingram, 13, joins Tamsyn Pack and Christopher Hockaday in the junior championship after coming (3rd, 5th) 5th of 25 in the qualifier; and Michelle Bannister, 16, joins Richard Boaden in the intermediate championship after coming (9th, 7th) 8th of 15.

Hayley Salmon just missed qualifying by one place again when she came (4th, 8th) 7th of 23 in the novice qualifier, having fallen in the OD.

Jen Truby notched up her best result in the junior class when she came (10th, 12th) 12th, and Olivia Dick came (15th, 16th) 17th.

Leah Rogers came (13th, 9th) 12th in the intermediate class.

Claire Miller competed in the primary free dance competition and came 4th of 12.

Synchro grows

The club is delighted that the synchro section will be fielding a junior as well as novice team in the coming season. The junior team will replace the mixed age team and still be called Ice Fusion as it includes Slough as well as Bracknell skaters. The novice team will continue to be called Ice Precise. It is hoped that both teams will be offered ISU internationals by NISA.

200 Club

The winners of the April 200 Club draw were Leah Rogers and Gary (Polo Bear) Montgomery who won prizes of £28 and £7. The more shares sold, the higher the prizes and the more money raised for the club. Shares are on sale at the club table on Wednesdays or via Scott Waller .

Watch and Learn

The club’s collection of ISU videos and DVDs, designed to help skaters to improve their elements, is proving very popular.

For a £5 deposit for each video or DVD, they can be borrowed free of charge for a week from the club table on Wednesdays although there may be a waiting list.

The titles are: How to Spin; How to Jump – axel, salchow, and loop; How to Jump – flip, toe loop, lutz; and Pairs. Each has sections about each jump/spin including history, technique, errors, corrections and skaters comments.

Have you paid?

Don't forget that anyone who skates on club ice on Wednesdays must pay at reception for each part of the session they skate on-ie, 6.15-6.45pm, 6.45-7.30pm and 7.30-8pm.

Tickets must be handed to the duty committee member at the gate before going on the ice at the start of each session.

Copies of BISC News with colour photographs are now available, priced £1. Members can still get black and white copies free as part of their membership.
