Test Successes

Congratulations to Sara Holroyd who passed her Level 7 compulsory dance test at Slough on May 5.

A NISA test session scheduled for Bracknell on May 19 had to be cancelled at short notice because of problems with the ice. It was rescheduled for June 11 when there was a 100% pass rate for:

Alice Niblett – Level 1 elements and free and novice field moves;
Helen Ingram — Levels 2 and 3 elements and free;
Hannah Byrne, Victoria Squibb and Robyn Vaughan — Level 3 elements and free;
Seren Tudor – Level 4 free.
Olivia Dick — Level 4 elements and free;
Elinor Bowes — Level 4 elements and free and inter-bronze field moves.

New Junior Rep

The BISC committee welcomes Richard Boaden, 16, as its new male junior representative. He is an experienced ice dancer (currently British junior men’s solo dance champion and British primary dance championship bronze medallist ) and synchro skater. He replaces Simon Waller who held the post for two years and is now training at iceSheffield as well as Bracknell.

Club Ice Changes

The club’s 5.15-5.45pm session on Fridays will be used for dance until the solo dance championships at the end of July. The committee is looking at how the session should be used from July 30 onwards. Check the noticeboard for further details.

The club has extra patch ice available on Tuesday, July 13 and Tuesday, July 27 from 6.45-8pm, and on Saturday, July 31 and Sunday, August 8 from 4.30-6.30pm.

Please see further details on the club noticeboard and sign up for whichever weekend sessions you are interested in as these will only go ahead if there is sufficient response. Only sign-up if you definitely can attend.

200 Club

The winners of the May 200 Club draw were Sally Pitcher and Sandra Kemp who won prizes of £29 and £7-50. The more shares sold, the higher the prizes and the more money raised for the club. Shares are on sale at the club table on Wednesdays or via Scott Waller.

Blackpool Off

The trip to see Hot Ice at Blackpool in July has been cancelled because not enough people had signed up.

Paula Dron, who has resigned as BISC’s fundraising and social organiser, hopes to organise a trip to another ice show.

Help Wanted

Can you occasionally spare an hour to help on the club table between 5.45-7.15pm on Wednesdays?

If you can help share the burden—especially if you are at the rink anyway - please contact Laura Hetebrij.

Club Gala

The annual club gala is to be held at the JNLC from 6.15-8pm on September 29. Make a note in your diary now so you don’t miss this annual treat. The emphasis this year will be on fun and entertainment.

Best wishes

The committee sends best wishes for speedy recoveries to Dot Lewis who broke a wrist while skating and to Tamsyn Pack who has a hip injury.

Good luck

The club wishes the best of luck to all its skaters competing in the National Team Challenge at Lee Valley on June 27. It is hoped that many fellow club members will go along to support them from 10am until 8pm.

Watch and Learn

The club’s collection of ISU videos and DVDs, designed to help skaters to improve their elements, is proving very popular.

For a £5 deposit for each video or DVD, they can be borrowed free of charge for a week from the club table on Wednesdays although there may be a waiting list.

The titles are: How to Spin; How to Jump – axel, salchow, and loop; How to Jump – flip, toe loop, lutz; and Pairs. Each has sections about each jump/spin including history, technique, errors, corrections and skaters comments.

Have you paid?

Don't forget that anyone who skates on club ice on Wednesdays must pay at reception for each part of the session they skate on-ie, 6.15-6.45pm, 6.45-7.30pm and 7.30-8pm.

Tickets must be handed to the duty committee member at the gate before going on the ice at the start of each session.

Copies of BISC News with colour photographs are now available, priced £1. Members can still get black and white copies free as part of their membership.
