What is synchronized skating?
Synchronized (which is commonly shortened to synchro) skating
is a competitive sport involving a team of 12 and 24 skaters
who perform highly practised group moves in perfect unison
to music. In fast-paced routines, skaters form circles, lines,
blocks, wheels and intersections choreographed to allow for
expression and interpretation of the music. Teams are judged
on these elements in addition to their speed, program difficulty,
style and artistic expression. Out three teams compete at
different levels:
Fusion is our novice team. It is judged using the IJS judging
system which mean that the team has to have certain steps
and patterns included in the program. The skaters must be
between the ages of 10 and 15 and 50% of the team must have
level two field moves by the competition closing date.
Fusion One is our intermediate team. It is judged using the
RJS judging system. 50% of the team must have level one field
moves by the competition closing date and the average age
of the team must be 15 years or younger at July 1st.
Fusion Two is our elementary team. Skaters can have no higher
than level one field moves and must be below the age of 21.
Synchro skating combines the beauty, elegance and difficulty
of freestyle skating with the advantages and excitement of
a team sport.
